ASTRONOMY AND ASTROPHYSICS Profiles of thermal line emission from advection dominated accretion flows

چکیده
Recently, Narayan & Raymond (1999) proposed that the thermal emission lines from the hot plasma in advection dominated accretion flows (ADAFs) are potentially observable with the next generation of X-ray observatories, with which the physical properties of some X-ray sources can be probed. In ADAFs, the temperature of the ion is so high that the thermal broadening of the line is important. We calculate the profiles of thermal line emission from ADAFs, in which both the thermal and Doppler broadening have been considered. It is found that the double-peaked profiles are present for high inclination angles between the axis of disk and the line of sight. The double-peaked profiles are smeared in low inclination cases, and completely disappear while the inclination angle is less than 15, where the thermal and turbulent broadening dominated on the line profiles. We also note that the thermal line profile is affected by the location of the transition radius of ADAF. The self-similar height-integrated disk structure and the emissivity with power-law dependence of radius are adopted in our calculations. The results obtained in this work can be used as a diagnosis on the future X-ray observations of the thermal lines. Some important physical quantities of ADAFs could be inferred from future thermal line observations.

High Resolution Infrared Imaging of the Compact Nuclear Source in NGC4258
We present high resolution imaging of the nucleus of NGC4258 from 1 μm to 18 μm. Our observations reveal that the previously discovered compact source of emission is unresolved even at the near-infrared resolution of ∼0.2 FWHM which corresponds to about 7 pc at the distance of the galaxy. This is consistent with the source of emission being the region in the neighborhood of the purported 3.5×10...
متن کاملOn the Radial Structure of Radiatively Inefficient Accretion Flows with Convection
We consider the radial structure of radiatively inefficient hydrodynamic accretion flows around black holes. We show that low-viscosity flows consist of two zones: an outer convection-dominated zone and an inner advection-dominated zone. The transition between these two zones occurs at ∼ 50 Schwarzschild radii. Subject headings: accretion, accretion disks — black hole physics — convection Depar...
متن کاملHow Dim Accreting Black Holes Could Be?
Recent hydrodynamical simulations of radiatively inefficient black hole accretion flows with low viscosity have demonstrated that these flows differ significantly from those described by an advection-dominated model. The black hole flows are advectiondominated only in their inner parts, but convectively dominated at radii R ∼ > 10RG. In such flows, the radiative output comes mostly from the con...

Your thesaurus codes are: missing; you have not inserted them Abstract. We present XMM-Newton observations of the bright quasar PKS 0558−504. The 0.2–10 keV spectrum is dominated by a large, variable soft X-ray excess. The fastest flux variations imply accretion onto a Kerr black hole. The XMM-Newton data suggest the presence of a 'big blue bump' in PKS 0558−504 extending from the optical band ...
متن کاملJet power extracted from ADAF and the applications to X-ray binaries and radio galaxy FR dichotomy
We calculate the jet power of the classical Blandford-Znajek (BZ) model and hybrid model developed by Meier (2001) based on the global solutions of advection dominated accretion flows (ADAFs) surrounding Kerr black holes. We find that the jet power of the hybrid model is larger than that of the pure BZ model. The jet power will dominate over the accretion power and the objects will enter into “...
